About Michiel Hertroys
Michiel Hertroys was born in Amsterdam in 1941. He started his education with the painter Norbert Olthuis. Succesfully passed through the Ateliers'63, still in Haarlem back then.
He attended education by painters Friso ten Holt and Pierre van Soest, graphic artist Frans Verpoorten and sculptor Wessel Couzijn. After attending this broad education, he started his artists career in 1967.
Much art was created since; paintings, drawings, pastels, aquarels and graphics.
Every work of art is strongly individual, a realistic representation is not pursued. Objects are standing, lying or floating that can almost claim recognisability. A precise representation is lacking, which gives the spectator much room for association.
The artist explains: "What the world looks like, we can see ourselves, but the hidden forces behind that is what I try to make visible and palpable".
If you are open minded enough, the strength of the imagination comes through. Of course, this happens optimally when visiting an exhibition of his work. Then you will also be confronted with the format and the texture.
